In the digital age, consumers are increasingly flooded with information from a wide variety of media. Research has found that we create and share 1.5 billion pieces of content, 140 million tweets and 2 million videos each day. With the proliferation of information available and a demand for instant and easily palatable content from consumers, businesses are looking to visual marketing methods such as infographics to explain, share and promote content.

What are infographics?

Information graphics or ‘infographics’, are visual representations of data, that present complex information quickly and clearly.

As the majority of people are visual learners, infographics serve them well, as they’re easy to scan and easily shareable. They can therefore be a useful way to educate your audience.

There are many benefits to using infographics as part of your content marketing strategy, but rather than list them all, we thought we would share them via this infographic, created by design consultancy, Zabisco.

Top Tips

As you can see, there are many benefits to incorporating infographics into your content marketing strategy. Below are our top four tips to help you create a powerful, visual message and get your brand noticed.

Keep it simple

Infographics should be simple, concise and clear. Most people will only spend three-minutes reading an infographic, so be selective when choosing which information to feature and delete information that does not add value to your message.

Organize your information

Think about the topic you want to cover. What questions are important to your target audience and what surprising or useful information can you provide? The infographic should start with your most powerful piece of data so that readers are hooked immediately. Order your supporting information so that it has a surprise in the middle and builds towards a clear conclusion and a call-to-action at the end.

Be creative with the design

Infographics don’t have to look like a piece from a newspaper or magazine. Experiment with different combinations of typography, illustrations, images, charts, diagrams and icons, to find a design that reflects your brand values. It is also important to choose colors that enhance the information. Color makes the copy more legible and determines the visual hierarchy of information.

Make your infographic easily shareable

Infographics are great because they are often shared across social media and other websites. Once you have posted it on your website, you should share the infographic across all of your social media platforms. Make sure that the post has a social sharing widget installed, so readers can share it across their social profiles. Another good idea is to provide the html code so other websites can display it with a link back to the blog post.
